Mothers and Doula's

Doulas help in labour by using techniques such as massage, hot and cold compresses and a calm voice to relax the Mother.  Back labour is very common in labouring women. I have been taught various positions which help alleviate back pain.  I am there as a continuous support throughout labour and will offer you encouragement and non-judgemental support.

Fathers and Doula's

I do not take the place of the father in birth.  I help by giving suggestions at the right time so the father can be more involved in the birth of your baby.  I take the pressure off him to know how and when to do what.  Labour classes are a great way to get confidence for labour but having a person in the room who has been there before and has lots of experience is always a good idea.  Having a doula gives you the opportunity to have continuous care and a friendly face throughout the experience.

Doulas really make a difference!

Numerous studies have shown that the presence of a doula at a birth results in:
  • 50% reduction in cesarean rates
  • 40% reduction in forceps deliveries
  • 25% shorter labours
  • 60% reduction in epidural requests
  • 40% reduction in oxytocin (Pitocin) use
  • better mother-infant bonding
  • 30% reduction in analgesia use
  • reduced post-partum depression
